==== Access from China and United States response ==== In October 2021, following the 2021 Facebook leak and controversies about social media ethics, a bipartisan group of United States lawmakers also pressed TikTok, YouTube, and Snapchat on questions of data privacy and moderation for age-appropriate content. Lawmakers also "hammered" TikTok about whether consumer data could be turned over to the Chinese government through ByteDance, its parent company in China. TikTok said it does not give information to China's government and "US user data" is stored within the country with backups in Singapore. In June 2022, BuzzFeed News reported that leaked audio recordings of internal TikTok meetings reveal employees in China had access to overseas data, including a "master admin" who could see "everything". Some of the recordings were made during consultations with Booz Allen Hamilton, a US government contractor. A spokesperson of the contractor said some of the report's information was inaccurate but would neither confirm nor deny whether TikTok was one of its clients. As a consequence, the Senate Intelligence Committee including US lawmakers Mark Warner and Marco Rubio called for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to investigate ByteDance and whether TikTok had misled them. Following the reports, TikTok confirmed that employees in China could have access to US data. It also announced that US user traffic would now be routed through Oracle Cloud and that backup copies would be deleted from other servers.

=== Nuclear activism === The aftermath of the Manhattan Project and his wife Ava's pacifism changed Pauling's life profoundly, and he became a peace activist. In June 1945, a "May-Johnson Bill" began that would become the Atomic Energy Act of 1946 (signed August 1, 1946). In November 1945, Pauling spoke to the Independent Citizens Committee of the Arts, Sciences and Professions (ICCASP) on atomic weapons; shortly after, wife Ava and he accepted membership. On January 21, 1946, the group met to discuss academic freedom, during which Pauling said, "There is, of course, always a threat to academic freedom – as there is to the other aspects of the freedom and rights of the individual, in the continued attacks which are made on this freedom, these rights, by the selfish, the overly ambitious, the misguided, the unscrupulous, who seek to oppress the great body of mankind in order that they themselves may profit – and we must always be on the alert against this threat, and must fight it with vigor when it becomes dangerous." == Side effects == Possible side effects of cyanocobalamin injection include allergic reactions such as hives, difficult breathing; redness of the face; swelling of the arms, hands, feet, ankles or lower legs; extreme thirst; and diarrhea. Less-serious side effects may include headache, dizziness, leg pain, itching, or rash. Treatment of megaloblastic anemia with concurrent vitamin B12 deficiency using B12 vitamers (including cyanocobalamin), creates the possibility of hypokalemia due to increased erythropoiesis (red blood cell production) and consequent cellular uptake of potassium upon anemia resolution. When treated with cyanocobalamin, patients with Leber's disease may develop serious optic atrophy, possibly leading to blindness, based on few case reports.
=== Body mass index (BMI) === A body mass index (BMI) level not within normal range can also affect semen quality negatively. Being underweight, presented by a low BMI value, was observed in an analysis to decrease the total sperm count and semen volume. No significant changes were observed in sperm concentration and motility due to a low BMI. However, due to the lack of raw data, further research is needed to clarify the role of BMI in semen quality. On the other hand, an overweight (BMI of 25.9–29.9) or obese status (BMI over 30) is similarly associated with low semen quality through a decrease of semen volume, concentration, motility, count, and morphology. Alteration of sex hormone levels were also concluded to result from a high BMI status, with affected hormones such as inhibin B or testosterone observed to decrease in concentration, whereas estradiol was increased. The reduction in hormone levels can subsequently result in being diagnosed with hypogonadism.
