=== Canthaxanthin === Canthaxanthin is most commonly used as a color additive in certain foods. Although the FDA has approved the use of canthaxanthin in food, it does not approve its use as a tanning agent and has issued warnings concerning its use. When used as a color additive, only very small amounts of canthaxanthin are needed. As a tanning agent, however, much larger quantities are used. After canthaxanthin is consumed, it is deposited throughout the body, including in the layer of fat below the skin, which turns an orange-brown color. These types of tanning pills have been linked to various side effects, including hepatitis and canthaxanthin retinopathy, a condition in which yellow deposits form in the retina of the eye. Other side effects including damage to the digestive system and skin surface have also been noted.

=== Workplace accidents === Women are underrepresented in sectors associated with higher physical risks, which contributes to lower reported rates of workplace accidents. The most notable early theory for crystal structures was that of René Just Haüy. In 1801 Haüy, published his Traité de Minéralogie in four volumes, the last of which was an atlas of plates which was considered "among the most wonderful of the 19th century". It has been described as "a work of comprehensive insight, and much of it, written with literary fluency". In this work Haüy described how the law of rational indices establishes relationships between the orientations of the crystal faces, and explains that crystalline solids are formed by replicas of what would now be considered a unit cell. Haüy's theory called for fixed mineral species (based on their molécule intégrante), fixed crystal morphology, and constant chemical composition. This was a mineralogical equivalent to the law of definite proportions in chemistry. John G. Burke (1966) and Hans-Werner Schütt (1984) proposed Haüy's crystal structure theory as an example of a paradigm in the sense of The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas S. Kuhn (1962). === Nuclear === In addition to its reported mitochondrial function, some researchers have proposed a very small pool of active nuclear SIRT3 exists. This pool is reported to consist of the long form of SIRT3 and has been suggested to have histone deacetylase activity. The observation that SIRT3 has nuclear activity came from a report that SIRT3 protected cardiomyocytes from stress mediated cell death and that this effect was due to deacetylation of a nuclear factor, Ku-70.
On the other hand, the underutilized columns reduce the theoretical maximum productivity for such processes. Generally, the advantages and disadvantages of different multi-column protocols are the subject of debate. However, without a doubt, compared to single column batch processes, periodic counter-current processes provide significantly increased productivity.
==== Hungary ==== In 1994, 265 mummified bodies were found in the crypt of a Dominican church in Vác, Hungary from the 1729–1838 period. The discovery proved to be scientifically important, and by 2006 an exhibition was established in the Museum of Natural History in Budapest. Unique to the Hungarian mummies are their elaborately decorated coffins, with no two being exactly alike.

Suppliers normally quote a percentage of total chromatographic peak area, most often from reversed-phase HPLC. That figure says nothing about what the remaining percentage contains, and it depends on the detection wavelength used. A mass spectrometry result is a separate and stronger check on identity.
